I‘m going to interrupt my terrible music streak here on the blog with a fantastic song by a little-known musician — a guy named Jim Sullivan, who made a brilliant country-rock album in 1969 that went nowhere at the time, but finally started getting some of the attention it deserved after being reissued earlier this decade. I discovered it a couple of months ago.
Dorothy Parker was one of the funniest goddamn writers of the twentieth century, in print and in person. She was also a great fan of dogs, so much so that during her brief stint as a theater critic in the teens and early twenties she frequently offered assessments of any dogs that happened to appear in the theatrical productions she was reviewing.
And so, as a kind of break from the regular misogyny and/or election coverage here on WHTM, let’s take ourselves back to that more innocent (but not really) age for a look at Dorothy Parker’s reviews of dogs.

I gotta skip the misogyny/alt-right crap today. So here’s a question for you all: what are you reading?
I’ll start: in addition to reading way too many news stories about Donald Trump, I’ve been reading about meditation. Here are a couple of books I especially like:
Donald Trump did not say this. Flat earther meme found on Whotfetw.com; I added the word “fake”to it seven times in six different fonts
There’s been a bit of excitement amongst the Flat Earthers over the past couple of days, as word spread that none other than Donald J. Trump had come out publicly as a Flat Earther, telling an Associated Press reporter that:
In light of the sheer grimness of that last post, there has been a request for a “kittens, puppies, bonbons and rainbows thread.” So here you go. Discussion does not have to be confined to kittens, puppies, bonbons and rainbows, but keep it positive! This is a thread for uplifting stuff only. No trolls, MRAs, Hitlers.
To me, nothing says “summer” more than DRONE MUSIC. Well, not really, but here are five hours and 15 minutes of drone/ambient music that is as slow as molasses and just as sweet. Tap your feet, very very very very slowly, to these droney hits!

Happy Fourth of July!
And if you’re not in the US, or simply don’t celebrate the Fourth, well — Happy Day in July!
If you’re a skittish dog or cat living in the US, I would like to extend my deepest apologies for the horrible boom-boom noises in the sky. I know this is not your favorite day. But it will soon be over.
Ok, so this is completely off-topic but here, in video form, is a preliminary attempt to answer a crucial question of our age: Why not use drones to cut hair?
After watching the video, I think you will be able to see why.
And then there were two. Now that the Democrats have a Presumptive Nominee of their own, I’m thinking we could use an open thread to talk about Hillary’s big win, Bernie’s future, and how to derail the Trump Train (figuratively speaking).
So hey. I’m not officially back on duty yet — I’ll be back sometime in the next couple of days — but I thought I’d seed a little discussion here with what I’m calling The Official We Hunted the Mammoth Book Recommendation Thread.
