Honestly, other people on Bluesky found him before I did, but in case you haven’t, I thought I’d give you a guided tour of Simon Sarasova, the dude behind something called Seekia, “a genetics aware mate discovery network.” And yes, he’s as creepy as that sounds, and then some.

Last Saturday, a young antinatalist named Guy Edward Bartkus parked a car laden with explosives in front of the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California. Setting off a powerful homemade bomb that shook the whole neighborhood, he didn’t succeed in killing anyone but himself–though the blast did injure four others. And despite devastating a good chunk of the clinic building, his attack didn’t harm the clinic’s stored embryos. But he did accomplish two of his primary goals: ending his own life and getting his particular brand of antinatalism in the news for several days.

Liz Bruenig is an odd duck. Though ostensibly a leftist, the Atlantic columnist is famous for pushing reactionary views disguised as progressive common sense. She has a remarkable ability to make the worst ideas sound innocuous, writing so blandly and “civilly” that readers may not even be aware of what she is doing. She is famously against abortion. In the past, as Jude Doyle notes in an excellent takedown of all things Liz Bruenig, she has suggested that “gay people might still be acceptable in the eyes of God if they stayed celibate” and “that crisis pregnancy centers — fake abortion clinics that promise “help” with unwanted pregnancy, then terrorize patients into promising they won’t get an abortion — could end poverty.”

I‘ve documented, over the years, just how much the so-called Men Going Their Own Way hate women. But it’s worth noting that they also sort of hate everyone else as well, at times sounding as misanthropic and self-obsessed as the worst of the incels. Add the coronavirus to the mix and you end up with something really ugly.
