There are no arguments to rebut here; I can only repeat the basic message that the slutwalks are trying to convey: no one deserves to be raped, no matter what they are wearing or how much consensual sex they engage in. Holly, we have a system that doesn’t take sexual assault very seriously and takes it even less seriously when a man is making the claim. That is, in fact, a problem just the way NWO is thinking of it.
What he means is if that if a man feels flattered when a woman grinds on him, a woman should feel flattered when her ass is grabbed. His hypothetical is a stupid example because: 1) he’s stupid and 2) I’d bet you two fat men* that he hasn’t actually been out in a social situation that involved alcohol and dancing in over a decade. he has no baseline understanding of the dynamics at work.
You’ll note, also, that he’s changing the scenarios in attempt to bolster whatever point he’s trying to make at any given time. Drunken tarts grinding on a guy, sexual harassment/assault. Ami, the whole thing with the club and dancing is my take on it and I’m sorry if it’s muddling the whole mess. Not that it would change the fact that NWO is a filthy fucking liar who thinks that sexual teasing is equivalent to harassment and/or assault, but I don’t want to be the person gumming up the works.
The reason I used that scenario was his repeated use of expressions like “drunken tart” and “bitch in heat,” etc. And there are only a handful of situations, reasonably, where a drunken woman would be “grinding” on a guy and he would feel free to grab her ass. Parties, night clubs, concerts, are the situations that immediately spring to mind. The dynamics at play in those kinds of situations are a bit different than in our regular, no partying lives. There are still boundaries, egregious party fouls, and the expectation that everyone, regardless of gender, should and will be able to set limits.
But it’s not the same as having your ass grabbed on the street. Or being rubbed up against repeatedly on the subway.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If a woman wants to avoid being raped, statistically speaking her best bet is to never go home and only talk to strangers.
