After that last post I figure we all could probably use some cats. I certainly could.
So here are some cats behaving just a little bit suspiciously.
Every year here, on Christmas Day, we celebrate something we might call We’re Not Even Going to Think About the Jerkfaces of the Internet Today Day. Feel free to join us.
Also, Merry Christmas, if you celebrate that too!
Open thread! No MRAs, etc!
Confirming what most We Hunted the Mammoth readers have suspected for years, a new study from Indiana University reports that watching cat videos on the internet makes you feel good.
According to a press release from Indiana University about the study:

After that last post, I’m thinking a lot of us need some brain bleach. And so here are some pictures of cats who are clearly up to something. I have no idea what.

It’s Friday, and I sort of played hookey from the serious business of this blog. Sometimes, with this stuff, you’ve got to take a breather.
So, instead of the usual terrible quotes from terrible people here are some cats being cats.
Also, while I have you all here, a giant THANK YOU to everyone who has donated. And if you haven’t, the We Hunted the Mammoth Fourth Quarter Pledge Drive continues!
Donate using the button below; you don’t need a Paypal account, and Paypal can handle all sorts of non-US currency. Also, don’t worry that the PayPal page says Man Boobz. Thanks!
And now, without further ado, here are more kitties!

Today marks the beginning of the Fourth Quarter 2014 We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive! Which is another way of saying “several days in which I beg you all for money.”
To repeat my simple pitch from my previous pledge drives: If you enjoy this blog, and can afford it, please click on the “donate” button below and send a few bucks my way. Or, if you’d prefer, a lot of bucks. You don’t need a PayPal account; credit cards are accepted, and there are other options as well. If you’re outside the US, PayPal will automatically convert your weird non-American money into American bucks.
Oh, and the PayPal page will say you’re donating to Man Boobz; don’t panic! That’s just the old name of the blog.
As always, your donations are all greatly appreciated, whatever size they are. They keep me, the cats, and this blog going. And thanks to all of those who donate between pledge drives as well! Some of you are really going above and beyond, and it means a lot to me.
While I’m at it, I should point out that I also greatly appreciate all the non-monetary things you all do to support the blog , from contributing smart and funny comments, designing graphics, sending me tips on stuff to write about, sharing posts on Twitter and Facebook, moderating comments, and so on.
This past quarter has been the biggest quarter ever for We Hunted the Mammoth; over the past three months, the site has averaged more than a million page views per month. And the total number of comments left since the blog began is approaching half a million. No, really. Thanks, everyone!
Well, except the trolls.

Since today is Thanksgiving — also known as Thursday, to those not in the US — I thought I would take a break from all the negativity and celebrate some of the true heroes of video gaming.
Make sure to scroll down all the way for a video of cats and dogs and lizards legitimately for real playing iPad games. Enjoy!

So some Swedish movie theaters have decided to institute a new rating system to let viewers know whether or not the films they show pass the Bechdel Test — that is, if at any point in the film two female characters have a conversation about something other than a man.
Over in the Men’s Rights subreddit, a fella with the classy handle classypedobear takes strong exception to this terrible affront to human decency. His argument?

Wait. WHAT IS WRONG WITH TALKING ABOUT KITTENS?
Thanks, AgainstMensRights subreddit!

When I bring up the subject of cats on this blog, as I so often do, it’s party because, well, I’m a bit of a fan. But it’s also because I know it confuses and irritates the misogynists who read this blog, inveterate cat-haters all (or almost all). I’ve never quite understood the depth of the animosity the guys in the manosphere seem to have towards cats.
But now one of these cat haters has provided us with a theoretical explanation for his catphobia. In a post with the suggestive title “Limp-Wristed Cat Lovers, Beautiful Dog Lovers,” the guy behind the PUA blog LaidInNYC explains why real men — and real women — hate cats and love dogs instead.
