So The Federalist, that bastion of reaction and bad takes, has a particularly inane post up now dedicated to the proposition that “Art Shouldn’t Get A Free Nudity Pass Just Because It’s Art,” as the title puts it. Why? Apparently naughtiness has no place in art.

I have to give The Federalist credit for one thing: It was an eye-catching headline. Yesterday, you see, the billionaire-backed right-wing website ran a semi-coherent rant from staff editor Samuel Mangold-Lenett under the headline: “Pride Month Is A Cynical Exercise In State-Enforced Homosexuality.”
Yesterday we looked at the ongoing Republican tantrum about single women–who went for Dems nearly 70 percent of the time in the midterms. Now one bold conservative revanchist has a bold plan to eliminate this democratic advantage–by eliminating single women.
When the Federalist teased its essay “We Need To Stop Calling Ourselves Conservatives” on Twitter on Thursday, some people, including myself, joked that the new word they were looking for was probably “fascists.” This turns out to be not much of a joke, as the essay, by Federalist senior editor John Daniel Davidson, preaches a revanchist authoritarianism that in many ways resembles classical fascism.
Opening up Twitter today, I was greeeted with this headline:
Contemporary conservatism is awash in irrationality. Right-wingers have eagerly embraced conspiracy theories of all sorts, from QAnonymish stories of pedophile illuminati to vaccine “skepticism.” Instead of worrying about real crises like COVID and climate change, they denounce imaginary “cultural Marxism” and innocuous Drag Queen Story Hours, convinced that both are literally demonic attacks on middle American children.
Parents, watch out! The video-based social media app TikTok isn’t just entertaining your young daughters with amateur videos featuring dancing and lip-sync and humor that will make anyone older than 25 feel very ancient indeed; it’s also, the Federalist warns, enabling kids to “‘dabble in the occult from their phones.”
MAGA truly is a death cult, though it’s rare for anyone on that side to admit it outright. Enter The Federalist, which today published a piece by its executive editor with the utterly un-ironic headline “For Christians, Dying From COVID (Or Anything Else) Is A Good Thing.”
Leave it to the Federalist to offer a literal recipe for owning the libs.
