Sometimes it’s useful to remember just what the early second wave feminists were reacting against. Here, from a comic circa 1970 (judging from the clothing) is a sort of double-whammy of misogyny: hide your smarts, girls, or you’ll end up a wizened old maid at the ripe old age of … twenty?
The MRAs today who prattle on about how declining marriage rates mean that men are wising-up to the evils of feminism need to remind themselves that delaying marriage is a good thing for both men and women (the earlier the marriage, the greater the likelihood of divorce; the later the marriage, the more time for men and women to get decent education, start a career, mature a bit, etc etc). In the fifties, obviously, the pressure for women (and to a lesser degree, men) to marry very young was immense. This comic suggests that these pressures didn’t vanish with the coming of the sixties counterculture or even with the first stirrings of second wave feminism.

You see, it’s very simple. The divorce rate used to be eleventeen. Now, almost thirty-twelve years later, it’s risen by approximately infinity-jillion percent. I know these numbers are scarey, but try to think independently for a change, will you?
Consequently, western civilization will end very soon. If you don’t believe me, look at the ghetto. Just look at it! No one has ever gotten married there, and no one ever will! The rate of illegitimacy there is at least 190% and rising. The ghetto’s very existence causes non-ghettoites to want to get divorced, have babies out of wedlock, and use crack.
The reason, of course, is feminism. And the Rothschilds. Ya’ll are just too much in the thrall of Big Daddy Government, and Major League Baseball, to see the truth–which, for some entirely coincidental reason, can only be found on websites that feature holocaust denial.

According divorcerate.org, the following statistics are true:
The divorce rate in America for first marriage is 41%
The divorce rate in America for second marriage is 60%
The divorce rate in America for third marriage is 73%
So odds are, if you get married three times (like Rush Limbaugh or Newt Gingrich), the issue might just be that you’re really bad at being married. So, actually, if you get married for the first time, your marriage has a pretty good chance of succeeding – the 50% statistic is factoring in failed 2nd and 3rd marriages (though, really, is ‘failed’ the right word for it? I know a couple divorcees who do not look back on either their marriage or subsequent divorce with much regret – it was right for a time to be married, and it was right at a particular time to divorce, and that overall their lives were enriched by the experience and the other person. They don’t see that anyone ‘failed’ at anything).
Now, here’s some interesting things, using stats I got from the same website. Of women who divorce, 64.2% are age 24 or younger. Of men who divorce, 50.5% are 24 or younger. But the average age of first marriage for women is 26.1 and the average age for men is 28.2. So the majority of divorces are occurring amongst a segment of the population which is marrying younger than average anyway. What I infer is that there is a segment of the population which has unrealistic expectations of marriage, rush into it quickly and then rush out with the same fervor (perhaps coming from those same population centers which encourage young marriage).
But individuals who delay marriage until their late 20s or early 30s and have children are going to end up in the most stable marriages overall. They certainly won’t be divorce-proof, but they will at least be divorce-resistant.
Or, using Slavey’s math:
A population of 1,000 people, 500 female and 500 male and all are cisgender and heterosexual and will be marrying each other during a one year period.
So, in year one, there are 500 marriages. 295 marriages ‘succeed’, by which we mean, ‘end when someone dies.’
205 couples find that they have made a mistake, and divorce. In approximately 3 years, they will marry again to other people. 123 of these marriages will also end in divorce, meaning 82 last.
123 of these people, ever the optimists, will also remarry, and 90 of those marriages will end in divorce, rather than death.
So, all told, 410 marriages ‘succeed’ (by which we mean, end in death). Assuming that there are no further remarriages and divorces, and that widows and widowers stay single, that means that 82% of the population will eventually end up in a marriage that lasts, even if it takes some of them three tries to get it right.
Of course, those stats are entirely too simple, and don’t take into account widows and widowers remarrying, people who don’t wish to marry but cohabit happily, people in stable polyamorous triads (or quads or nests or whatever else they wish), lesbians and gays who would like to marry but can’t, lesbians and gays who don’t see a need to get married, people who are asexual/aromantic and quite happy to be on their own, people who aren’t asexual or aromantic but still don’t want to marry, celibate clergy or what happens when it’s the groom’s third marriage but the bride’s first. These stats also only reflect American marriage stats – your mileage will vary in South America, Africa, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Asia or various tribal cultures. I’m also not sure if they’re counting fundamentalist polygamous Mormon spiritual wifery, handfasted Wiccans or other couples/groups who consider themselves to be married but haven’t yet given the State a heads up.
Either way, the stats indicate that, on the whole, Americans like marriage and being married, and that it looks like marriage isn’t going anywhere soon.

Holy crap that’s awesome! My ability to commit has reached NEGATIVE NUMBERS! Lesse -7% x 20 guys = -140%. Assuming I started out as a perfect 100% able to commit virgin (but, wait, then why am I not with my first boyfriend? Oh right – he broke up with me! It’s all his fault – he ruined me!) I’m at -40% ability to commit. So apparently I now break up with men BEFORE I EVEN MEET THEM!! Hey, I think that might be why my fiance and I have been together for nearly 7 years now – because I want to leave him for another man but I keep retroactively breaking up with those men so I just can’t find anyone to leave him for! On another topic, wow, it’s amazing, I never knew the ghetto was the country’s most perfect bastion of feminism. I kinda thought it was more popular among the middle-class and well educated, but, nope, that can’t be – wealthier more educated people have lower divorce rates, thus proving they are less feminist by slave logic.
