Hey, folks! I still exist. I’m just having another unplanned migraine vacation — same thing yesterday — so I may not get to posting anything today beyond this.
The tweet below has pretty much exhausted my creativity for the day, I think.

Oh, and as long as I’m pasting tweets, everyone should see this:
Apparently our Grifter-in-Chief stole, sorry "shifted," more than $100k from a charity for kids with cancer: https://t.co/4DQI83jnDH

Consider this an open thread.

Folks, I only just realized that Roger Ailes died like, three weeks ago.
Why am I always the last one to hear the good news ?
Dan Holme,
I would so read that story. It would make a great TV show.
Katie Kitten,
Supernatural isn’t perfect, but I’m a sucker for that kind of show. I think it did get bad for a couple of seasons but then got better again. I do wish they had series regulars that weren’t all white dudes but the chemistry between Sam and Dean keeps the show watchable through the rough patches. Have you ever seen Hex? It’s a short lived British supernatural themed show about a girl who discovers she’s a witch and her lesbian ghost best friend. It also starred Michael Fassbender before he was famous. Not many people in the US seemed to have seen it but I really liked it. I keep hoping it will have some sort of revival because of the early Fassbender in it.
@WWTH
Cheers! I’ll have a go at scribbling something over the summer. If nothing else it will be a good excuse to go yomping in the hills around Chinley and Marple, and up onto Kinder. All in the name of ‘research’.
Hex was good, but I only saw the first series, by the time the second series came out I was living without a TV. I might revisit it.
I’m quite entertained by the idea of a few M.R.James heroes, those slightly fusty antiquarians getting into scrapes with haunted dolls houses, binoculars and etchings, getting together to form a loose society of investigators – it would probably be quite genteel, until they ran into Count Magnus or the thing from Barchester Cathedral. Maybe they can be the DZP’s go-to research squad.
I’m not too surprised that evolutionary psychology tends to be uber reactionary. Scientists are only rated as being to the left of the general population because they’re much more likely than the general population to be atheists (about 55% of scientists are atheists, compared to about 20% of the population who are “unaffiliated”) and to not have personal moral problems with stuff like pornography or abortion. Those are hardly sufficient criteria for classifying someone as “left-wing.”
RoK posting more garbage.

Well i fucking mind and no one fucking cares about your opinion. He dont know history, he dont know anything. Ukraine is no previous fucking empire of russia. Fuck off and fuck yourself.
Sorry i really angry and dont know where to post this one.
@Valentine What the woman from Georgia is accused of leaking wasn’t publicly mentioned by the government. Suspicions are that it was the documents sent to The Intercept recently, showing that the NSA thinks that Russian hackers were involved in hacking into one of our voting systems.
@JS
But they dont already know if it proof or not? (I dont want that it true)
Valentine – I’m sorry, I’ll stop using Cyrillic to refer to the current U.S. manbaby in chief. There are lots of other references to use.
She’s being charged with violating her top secret security clearance. She could’ve leaked the documents to The Intercept and other stuff also. For all we know, she could be getting paid by the Russian government to undermine confidence in US democracy.
@Hambeast
You can keep using. I feel bad now. Yesterday I very tired because I cant get good sleep. I annoyed but now I realise I just being stupid. You keep using and enjoy ))))
But History Nerd…seriously? not everything is ‘russian conspiracy’. Can be that your governmetn just corrupt like our. Just because we red on corruption map and US has green there not really mean anything. George Bush won by cheating with voter machines.
For all we know, she could be an alien from Venus trying to undermine our space program to keep us from becoming a threat to the Venusians.
I mean, that’s just speculation, but we really don’t know, do we?
Wasn’t there a 3rd Rock From the Sun plot about Venusians trying to take over the world? They were all played by supermodels, including Cindy Crawford. They used their misandric feminine wiles to seduce earth men. I forgot to what end they wanted to control earth though.
Also with president trump, who really needs any more reason to loose confidence with US democracy…? ))))
If you want your confidence in American democracy undermined, this is the thing to read today:
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2017/06/the_white_house_s_latest_attack_on_democracy_is_unprecedented.html
@Valentine
Nah, our government is corrupt in a totally different way than yours. Which isn’t quite true, but yeah, the U.S. political system is ridiculously corrupt, and the only reason it shows up as less corrupt is because so much of the corruption has been legalised.
@dali
You have paperwork for your corruption;))) trust, i know! I seen guys sign off in america. They must fill so much papers! I only seen more papers in one other country – Myanmar!
I haven’t seen much evidence of that. I have seen tons of evidence of vote suppression throughout the US. The electoral college system with winner-takes-all policies gets ridiculous results. And the media has largely given up on reporting, preferring the far cheaper method of providing entertainment.
Direct fraud is very risky: the people who would be in charge of doing it are not generally the sharpest tools in the shed. And you need to mess with a lot of such people to flip the vote by even just a couple percentage points. Good luck keeping a lid on it.
There’s evidence of occasional small-scale fraud, but not at the large scale. Bush-Gore and Trump-Clinton both ended up pretty close numerically to what the polls were indicating.
But none even if i not correct, that still no proof of Russian conspiracy. It can be possible and i fully honest when i say that i hope that it not because this all same red scare bullshit from before – but even if some russian hack something does not mean all bad things is because of russia. You talking about russia – they fucking smuggling polish apples into russia right now! It hardly this world powerful bad guy. Too many times i reading this bullshit in American press. Trust, your country not corrupt like maybe ukraine or russia – but it corrupt. All are. Where there are people with power always will be people who use their power for bad and can cover very easy. In ukraine corruption like one of my fellow workers worried that he cant find good school for his daughter because he not know how to make the bribery correctly. In uk and us i dont know how you corrupt, not like this – but i not for one second believe it working how they tell you it working.
I’ll drop this here since it’s an open thread:
http://keranews.org/post/first-texas-shelter-male-victims-domestic-violence-opens-dallas
Domestic violence shelter, for men. Interesting that I don’t recognize any of the names involved as any of the MRAs who express so much concern that women get shelters…
(edit: fixed typo)
I’m hating this election night in UK. When the result was a forgone conclusion, an *absolutely* shitty one to be sure, but there was no doubt, it was easier to just pull covers over head and give up for another night.
But now… now there’s that painful little glimmer of hope that I havent felt in more than a year and I hate now knowing if I can truely embrace it yet 🙁
Hah, there’s another Worms Armageddon election special.
I’m uber paranoid about anything I see in the news nowadays.
Hells yeah! (Also: WTF? The tories let an out-and-out MRA run on their ticket?)
@numerobis
The entire election has been the Labour party keeping a very slight lead over the Conservatives.
445/650 seats declared
Labour 197
Conservatives 191
Just 205 seats left.
Valentin: Russian hackers are pretty well demonstrated. What they hack then comes out as propaganda, to shift world opinion. E.g. Climategate, which set global warming policy back several years, or the silly DNC email controversy. Shockingly, it turns out that some people aren’t always perfectly nice; with a tiny bit of spin you can twist that to everybody being completely 100% corrupt all the time.
Russian hackers directly flipping elections isn’t demonstrated at all, and I’m really dubious. But elections systems in the US are stupidly complicated, and many are actually, for real, hackable.
Russian hackers connected to the government seems likely. It takes a lot of resources, and the hacking is almost always helping the government.
