Hey, hostile visitors! Do you have an opinion about, for example, Mary Koss’ rape research? Do you want to discuss it even though the topic has not actually come up by itself in any of the threads and none of my recent posts really have much to do with the specifics of anyone’s rape research? Well, from now on you can discuss it here with anyone who wishes to follow you to this thread.
Added bonus: If you continue to try to discuss it in other threads you’ll be banned!
This also applies to future derailers riding hobbyhorses of their own having nothing to do with Koss.
Happy discussing!
Note: If you wish to discuss the topics at hand, you know, topics directly related to my posts and/or to what other people are discussing and that aren’t, you know, personal hobbyhorses of yours that involve long screeds and various things that you’ve probably already cut and pasted into the comments sections of various other websites until you were banned from them for endless derailing and general asswipery, feel free to remain in the original threads.

Fade, it’s privilege. There isn’t a single good reason why people should come first except species privilege. We’re one species among millions. Read Peter Singer.
Species privilege….
Okay, I’m not even going to touch that bit of… blech….
Who’s peter singer? I’ve never heard of them
Kyriarchy, it’s a thing dude. And guess what? Mental illness counts as disabled, and the disabled are less privileged. Likewise with poverty.
These are the relevant variables that you are missing.
Hey Howard, since you are, as far as I know, an able bodied cis man, could you perhaps help me out a touch and give doofus an example? I mean, I don’t think he’d respect your opinion, I’m just annoyed that it’s being assumed that I’m talking about privilege, on general, as if we’re something I don’t benefit from.
I mean, being poor and mentally ill and bi/pan and what-the-fuck-ever gendered and shit, totally means I don’t have the privilege of not being followed around stores and watched for spot lifting. I’d say “and no one touches my hair” but apparently that problem applies to white people, to a lesser degree, with exceptionally long hair.
@Argenti – “And saying that some people have privilege because of discrimination against other people is discriminating against them.”
Yes, you are, discriminating against men.
IMPLYING that people who are suffering dreadfully to the point they kill themselves, are somehow “priveleged” is absolutely discrimination.
That you manage to do so, despite lots of men close to you killing themselves, demonstrates quite clearly to the neutral observer that you personally consider men to be somehow less-than-human.
That you are able to blithley relate the story of these men’s suicide without any hint of care or compassion, while you are able to tear off on a huge pages long rant about: billboard’s of naked women and animal rights, clearly shows your hierarchy of discrimination.
In your mind Argenti:
– Women are more important than everyone else.
– Animals are more important than men.
– Men are worthless, and their suffering, indluding their deaths are nothing, because: “privelege”.
You’re a pretty messed up character.
@archaeoholmes – Why don’t YOU fuck off, eh?
You remember that you’re the one who brought up McDonalds, right?
We’re used to shifting goalposts here, but usually it’s trolls doing it. Did April Fools Day come late or something?
Fade, he’s a philosopher
Cassandra, no. Sorry about that
Dude, we get it. You don’t know what words mean. Please come back when you find the ability to read critically.
For example: Women in the exact same situation men are have to face whatever shitty things PLUS sexism. Is that not clear enough for you? or are you going to say “no, men have it really bad, please go give away all your stuff to prove it”
I think the only one arguing this point is archaeoholmes
Sorry, Argenti, I’m a racist and Joe said he would ignore anything I said.
Actually, that was one of the better things to ever happen to me.
I haven’t read any philosophy really, and I’m not incredibly interested in it.
This “human privilege” thing is bugging me. It seems like a mockery of all of the actual axises of oppression. Like when people try to claim “transethnicity” is a thing when they really mean they feel like a stereotyped, racist version of a certain ethnicity
Am I the only one with this opinion? I’m having a really hard time figuring out stuff here…
Um, Joe, remember the conversation we had earlier about things that are not productive? Yelling at Argenti isn’t going to do anything to help men who are suicidal. You’re in the UK, right? I know for a fact that there are suicide hotlines there that could use some volunteers.
No, Fade, I’m arguing our interests aren’t more important than those of other species. itg’s the basis of the environmental movement. We don’t just save species so we can look at them in zoos.
@Howardbann1ster
Is this you actually said something racist, or you mentioned white privilege, and joe was like “OMG REVERSE RACISM”!?!?!?
“Kyriarchy, it’s a thing dude.”
Sorry, no. If I don’t buy the patriarchy bullshit, why should I buy another layer of bullshit?
See how that works? If you have an entire political system (feminism) grounded on a big old out-of-date pile of bullshit, it totally discredits any other ideas that come out of that same political system.
You’re talking about your problems now. Tell me, have you asked the various services in your area for help? What was their response? Were you told you didn’t qualify because of your gender?
Depends on the animal. Not all animals are the same. Lots of sea creatures have such minimal neural networks that they feel pain in roughly the same way a tree does.
Which is an argument in favor of nuance, not saying ‘therefore animals with highly advanced neural circuitry that’s pretty damned close to ours are fair game.’
@Howard with greatest respect, is that not a lame argument for respecting other species? I mean all of them?
@Fade – “For example: Women in the exact same situation men are have to face whatever shitty things PLUS sexism. Is that not clear enough for you? or are you going to say “no, men have it really bad, please go give away all your stuff to prove it””
Uh, no, women in the exact same situation as Earl have shelters and women’s DV vic advice lines to go to for actual help.
wtf? Did you really think you could just handwave away reality with the magic “sexism” word?? 0.o
I’ll do a very quick analysis of privilege for Joe, then i’ll probably wind up ignoring him.
Kid: Daddy, Suzy said that I was being mean to her just because I called her a fatso. Is this true?
Dad: well, yes.
Kid: But we’re poor and Suzy’s rich. If she’s so much better off than us, how can I be mean to her?
Dad: well, just because Suzy’s rich doesn’t mean she can’t have problems. or that you can’t contribute to them. I mean, you’re bigger than your baby sister, but we still don’t let her hit you because it would still hurt. It’s the same thing. Just because a person is ‘bigger’ or has it easier in one way doesn’t mean bad things can’t happen to them.
Dad: Also, don’t call people fatsos. It’s mean.
Kid: …
Kid: I WANT TO WATCH A MOVIE!!!
/the end
…which is why I explicitly stated that was not the argument I was making.
You might want to slow down a little bit. You replied to Cassandra’s sarcastic response a minute ago with a surface reading that completely missed her poin, and you appear to have missed my second sentence. I understand that when you’re replying to a lot of people at once you can start to feel pressured to read faster and start skipping around to reply to them, but you can take your time. Anybody who’s interested in actually discussing the ethics of it will wait for you.
Calling stuff racist is racist, yes, that is how I got in trouble with Joe. (wish I could find that link)
Howard, noted.
@ Howard
Sorry that I’ve descended into all-snark mode, I’ve kind of run out of patience at this point.
I have to say I feel like I’m challenging privilige here by sticking up other species.
Ha! Sticking up “for”
If you feel like really understanding Joe, start reading the comments here.
There’s more out there, especially about how he sees Muslims, but it’s got some great pure Joe moments. He calls Bagelsan homophobic for noticing overt homoerotic themes in Fight Club.
