I love the sound of the ocean. Also looking at the ocean. Probably some of you do as well. So put this on, ignore the big watermark, and just relax the hell out.

What big watermark?
Also, I think I may be the first comment ?
If anyone wants to chat about anything medical, I’m here and willing to chat.
For anyone who doesn’t know, I am an MD, specializing in internal medicine (as in, has internal organs, needs an internal medicine doc ?), just finished a fellowship in geriatric medicine.
Yes! Self-care threads are awesome! 😀
I practiced self-care by sitting under a tree in the park and reading my book for about 15 minutes. It was so nice.
I am driving off to visit some friends this weekend. You guys have fun!
As it happens I just came back from Bermuda! And what a difference. (Not in the heat, though – Boston is actually slightly more oppressively hot.)
I’m wondering how a person can sleep as much as I am right now and still be tired. Sleeping badly isn’t just insomnia it seems. My self care is to murderise space zombies. After several attempts in the past to finish Dead Space 3 and failing due to boredom, I have suddenly decided that for all it’s faults it’s actually a pretty decent game so during my periods of wakefulness I am crafting epic guns and de-limbing necromorphs, it’s relaxing.
I didn’t write my graduate’s thesis today… but I organized my desk and made lists of stuff to do – and accidentally managed to memorize stuff I was sure I could never memorize. And I didn’t suffer from anxiety (even though my herpes disagrees)!
One day without anxiety really felt like a holiday. Wow, I’m a sad person :’D

Move is completed, almost entirely unpacked and set up. Still getting used to a different neighborhood, hubby is not happy about it; his social anxiety is worse than mine and he had established relationships with all the nearby storeclerks etc, which aren’t nearby anymore. I don’t have many meatspace connections to anyone anymore, so it wasn’t as much of a wrench for me. on the upside, the apartment is nice and I live 2 blocks from work now.
Unfortunately as well, the fingers I injured in my last bike wreck don’t seem to be healing well, which impedes my typing, and means I should probably limit it more than I do.
It makes me feel good to read of people being kind to themselves!
I have tonight off from my usual parenting duties so I am going to make a non-nutritious supper of hot dogs and Diet Coke, put on my pjs and watch reruns of “Chopped” in my room!
Hi all!
So, I went and set up my computer on a little entertainment stand (since I don’t have a proper desk yet, but I’m going to thrift stores to see if I can find a cool one tomorrow), and alas! I am missing two important cords that I can’t seem to locate! One of them is the cord from the tower to the monitor, and the other is the cord from the tower to the wall plug. So, I’m on an old laptop my roommates had and don’t use for the moment. Once my money gets cleared in my new account, I should be able to locate spares online or at a local computer repair shop.
Other than that, unpacking is going great! I’m 7 out of 10 boxes done! One box is going to have to wait until I get a bookshelf, because it’s nothing but books…I didn’t realize I had so many books! I have no idea where all these books came from! I swear! I also need more clothes hangers. I have no idea where all these clothes came from either. Packing these boxes is a blur.
My roommates recommended to me a wonderful app called Wunderlist. With it, we make lists that we can share with one another on our phones, and it’s really handy for organizational purposes. (We all use it for groceries and bills and such.) I love that I can make a list item, and then go into the item and make a list inside of it. It’s awesome for project planning! 8D
My new apartment isn’t bad. The kids around here can get a little noisy when they play outside (and when they play in the hallway in front of our door), but they do it during the day at least, so I can’t get too mad. Kids gonna kid. I’m just happy that there’s central AC and it works.
The new roommates are awesome, as I knew they were. We’re all into toy collecting, so we’re working on ideas for that, and looking at different blindbags and such that we’d want to collect and open.
We’re pooling our game and movie collections together, which is awesome. We have duplicates between us of some stuff, but I think that’s a good thing.
My guy roommate loves to cook. He made curry a few days ago and it lasted for quite a while. (It was too spicy for me though. I’m painfully weak against spicy foods.)
I’ve also been shown three different malls, two different Asian markets (one of them is super small, but it’s right by the apartments), an awesome used book store, and a game store where one of my roommates is thinking about joining their Pathfinder game.
I also have a fuzzy roommate named Tabby, who is a lovely old lady cat when you’re not accidentally petting her belly and facing her wrath in the form of bites and angry swatting.
The thrift store might have the power cords you need too– at least, it’s worth checking.
I’m feeling okay, I guess– there’s nothing blatantly wrong, but there’s a slight sadness on things. If I knew why it would probably vex me less. But my husband’s taking a couple days off (mostly because the USPS can’t pay him enough overtime) and that should be nice.
25 years. That’s how long I’ve been telling doctors there’s something wrong. They never listen. They don’t care. In 15 minutes today I got a diagnosis. I’m floored. I actually told a doctor I think that’s what I have before and she laughed. I had good, solid evidence for why I thought that, but she just laughed it off. This new doctor is seeing me for something unrelated, sees the same thing that concerned me in my chart, whips out his ultrasound, and gives me a diagnosis.
I’m so emotional over this I’m crying in the bathroom.
New patch. Weirder now, still fun
Gaea’s getting old
I haven’t eaten all day. I should be hungrier
It’s hotter somehow
I need space
I think too much, but not really about anything
Calming beach sounds do nothing for me. Here’s the opposite:

Gonna get my PBS on in a bit…
@kupo
I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY!!!
Oh kupo, I’m very happy for you. I know how tremendous it can be to finally have a doctor listen to you.
@Makroth – Agent of the Great Degeneracy
@kupo: that’s awesome. It’s great that you have a diagnosis that you can work on treating. I hope it goes well ?
Yay for Kupo! I’m so glad you finally got someone to listen to you!
Today I felt more like myself than I have in a couple weeks. I was able to hold conversations with my husband without slurring of speech or too much wordfinding difficulty.
Best of all, we went out to dinner and I didn’t feel like I embarrassed myself with the hot & sour soup.
Oh, and when I have the funds, I’m going to buy one of those ultrasound probes you can plug into an apple device. That’s the next best thing to a tricorder.
I moved back to campus this week and got my first assignments! I’m very excited for this year. I have begun my senior thesis about lgbtqia in speculative fiction. ^_^ It’s a narrative portrait series of lgbtqia folks.
@Joekster
That sounds neat. This one connected to a laptop.
@kupo: I may also need to make time for an ultrasonography course. I learned techniques in residency, but there is so much information you can get with these little do dads.
Fantastic health news from kupo and Victorious Parasol; so happy for both of you.
@ Makroth – Agent of the Great Degeneracy
Those axolotls … their little faces, ohmygod 😀
Here’s to everyone:
Oh, I missed your post earlier, @Victorious Parasol. That’s great news!
Entirely fed up with life.
@kupo
That’s superb news.
