In Reddit war, Swedes defeat Trump fans with fuktiga mejmejs (dank memes)

And the point goes to Sweden!
And the point goes to Sweden!

Yesterday, Donald Trump suffered an embarrassing defeat in a most unlikely place — Reddit — as a veritable army of Swedes armed only with fuktiga mejmejs (dank memes) sent Trump supporters cuck-cuck-cucking back to their headquarters in r/The_Donald.

How convenient that it is Memeday here on We Hunted the Mammoth.

The feud started on Tuesday when a Trump supporter posted a map of Northern Europe in r/The_Donald with a crude picture of what the Brits like to call “meat and two veg” scrawled over Sweden and Finland. Some of the inhabitants of r/Sweden (known as Sweddit) decided to respond with some artwork of their own.

Things escalated quickly, and what had been a minor Reddit scuffle was transformed into an all-out meme war yesterday that consumed both subreddits and dominated Reddit’s front page as well, with the plucky Swedes getting a surprising outpouring of support from the rest of Reddit — while the Trump fans stewed and sent salty messages to the Sweddit mods informing them that evil Muslim “rapefugees” would soon be taking over their country. Another Trump fan posted a picture of Swedish Fish candy he’d tossed in the toilet, declaring that he was “ending my addiction after today’s events. I can’t support those commies anymore.”

Eventually the Sweddit mods decided they needed to get some sleep, and temporarily closed  the subreddit to new submissions, more or less bringing the war to a halt. Pretty much everyone outside of r/The_Donald thinks that the Swedes won the day.

You can find more detailed descriptions of this little war here (in English) or here (in Swedish); the Sweddit mods reflect on what they call The Borkening here.

The Swedes and their allies put forth a vast quantity of memes — some clever, some a bit, er, problematic, and some of them in Swedish. Here’s a selection of my favorites from that first category.

More than a few mocked Trump supporters’ weird “cuck” obsession.

cuckss

cuckcuck

Some mocked how quickly The_Donald resorted to banning people.

And the Swedish Chef did his part.

Eventually, some people felt that the war was so lopsided that the Swedish mememakers were essentially, well, doing this:

Oh, and from here I noticed that r/The_Donald apparently has it’s own AskMeAnything threads, featuring some very familiar faces:

Vox Day:

https://www.reddit.com/r/The_Donald/comments/4auid2/i_am_vox_day_supreme_dark_lord_of_the_evil_legion/

Milo ‘hivemind’ Yiannopoulos

https://www.reddit.com/r/The_Donald/comments/48ia89/i_am_milo_yiannopoulos_and_donald_trump_is_my/

^Take a wild guess on what the last word of that URL is. (also, the AMA is just a reason to post memes, pretty underwelming, but my expectations ).

And my personal favorite, Scott fucking Adams, who has hastily boasted that he ‘predicted Donald Trump will win by a landslide’.

https://www.reddit.com/r/The_Donald/comments/4eglxx/i_am_scott_adams_a_trained_hypnotist_and_creator/

When asked to elaborate on his pompous prediction, he had this to say:

Let me walk you through this.

Let’s say Trump’s unfavorability is 70%, which is ghastly.

But he’s running against Clinton who is at 58% or so.

That’s a difference of 12. Trump only needs to persuade half of that gap to change their minds and it is a tie.

Can the best persuader of all time move the public 6 points in six months?

All he needs to do is improve his own rating by 3 and decrease Clinton’s by 3.

And what if Clinton is indicted?

And what does Trump need to do to improve his favorability that much?

He could just stop acting provocative for a few months. Or he could get a haircut.

Trump’s path is almost laughably easy if he gets nominated

Apparently, Scott Adams has the same logic as our trolls who think that if they pretend to be a regular commentator in a new thread, we’ll forget their abhorrent misogyny in a previous thread.

There was a comment questioning Scott Adams’s math skills, but he was quickly drowned out by ‘lol! trump with new hair’ (isn’t reddit just great for having in-depth discussions?)

This has been quite an enlightening adventure and by far my favorite part, also from the Scott Adams AMA, would be this question and subsequent answer:

Hillary Clinton often plays the “I am a woman card”. How do you expect Trump to handle this defense with out pissing off women?

I think Trump has a strong argument for being more pro-woman in actions, albeit offensive in words.

For starters, he offends everyone. Men just care less that they are called short, sweaty, or “plenty of material to work with.” So he might start by acknowledging he is offensive, but not biased in important ways.

Second, he has a great business record for mentoring and and promoting women. Actions speak.

And he is the most anti-rape candidate, ironically. That was part of his reasoning for limiting immigration. He took the risk of being labelled Hitler to protect American women. Or at least you could see it that way.

He’s pretty strong on that issue. And Clinton has her husband problems.

I’ll make sure and get a front row seat at the peanut gallery when Trump loses by a landslide.

Men get offended less easily? Riiiight. That’s why Trump is still mad at being called a short fingered vulgarian. That’s why red pillers have to call for the smelling salts every time a woman who has short, dyed hair enters their sightline.

Okay, Scott.

The thing about Scott Adams is that he doesn’t take in information that contradicts his astonishingly high opinion of himself. When his prediction is proven wrong, he’ll find some way to rationalize it so that he can still believe that he’s the smartest human ever to walk the Earth; and then he’ll just never mention it ever again.

Re: Scott Adams and his prediction of a glorious Trump victory, he’s already left himself an out. Trump is quite likely to not get the nomination at this point, via a brokered convention. Whether the GOP goes with Cruz in order to not piss off virtually everyone who voted for one of the two thugs, or they go with a ‘safe’ candidate like Kasich (who is still awful, but looks good by comparison, which may be the most evil thing about the Trump/Cruz match), doesn’t really matter. So long as Trump isn’t at the top of the ticket Adams simply claims he was only talking about a run against Hillary, so no foul.

That was great! But I can’t help feeling that Trump fans are going to be beaten in almost any battle of wits.

Well, when they insist on showing up unarmed….

******

As someone who is 1/4 Norwegian (I’ve even been to the family farm once; they take you up on a hill, and point to a rock in the distance, and inform you that that rock marks the outermost edge of the Arctic Circle, and then you understand why you have no trouble with Chicago winters), I’m of mixed feelings.

I mean, it’s great to see Trumpeters go down in flames, but to have it done by Swedes, of all people…. Well, I’ll just have to set aside my heritagism and congratulate my njordic cousins on their well-fought victory. Oh! And I have to see if Scandinavia and the World does a strip on this, because that would be freakin’ awesome.

What is it with right-wingers and wildly overestimating their chances in elections? Especially in recent years, right?

Remember in 2012 when every right-winger was absolutely convinced that Obama would lose in a landslide, even though all polls said the opposite. They even made their own “unskewed” polls because they couldn’t cope with reality. Then they were SHOCKED at the entirely predictable result of the election.

I feel like the opposite doesn’t really happen in the same way. For example, in 2014 every left-leaning person predicted that the Republicans would do great, and they did. Is wishful thinking more of a conservative thing?

IP, the Republicans have spent years courting voters who have a tenuous grasp of reality, with the assistance of Fox News and various other dishonest and sensationalist media outlets. People who would formerly have been way out on the margin are mainstream now.

Freemage

IP: Two things.

First is the bog-standard Echo Chamber. A lot of GOP voters believe they’re going to win all the time because they only talk to and listen to conservative news sources, forums, etc. Thus, it seems like everyone agrees with them, except the handful of people they meet in circumstances they can’t control that way, who obviously are ‘the minority’.

Some factions on the Left are that way, too–I know a lot of online Berniebros were shocked–SHOCKED!–when it turned out that polls on websites where brigading is an easy thing to arrange are less than useful in predicting primary outcomes.

However, there’s a second factor in the conservative pocket, specifically. There’s a long-standing belief in conservative circles in ‘the Silent Majority’–the belief that there’s a vast horde out there that agrees with everything they say, and just isn’t speaking up because of fear of criticism. (See also: Any GamerGator talking about “censorship”.)

Conservatives need that belief in a way that most progressives don’t, for a simple reason. Since conservatives want to defend the status quo or even roll back the clock, they can never accept the idea that their positions are decreasing in popularity. Progressives, however, are intrinsically inclined to start from a position of unpopularity and attempt to change the public view to match their own. From the conservative mindset, to be truly unpopular is to be WRONG. From the progressive mindset, to be truly unpopular is simply same shit, different day. (This can, of course, lead to political hipsterism, which has its own flaws.)

I like how /r/sweden managed to make /r/the_donald very quickly go from “oh, we’re not racist, we just support Trump” to “TELL THOSE SWEDES THAT MUSLIMS WILL RAPE THEIR WOMEN!”

Oh Scott, Scott, Scott…how foolish you are:

I think Trump has a strong argument for being more pro-woman in actions, albeit offensive in words.

Uh, he’s done literally NOTHING for women. Nothing at all, not even for the three he married…poor dears.

For starters, he offends everyone. Men just care less that they are called short, sweaty, or “plenty of material to work with.” So he might start by acknowledging he is offensive, but not biased in important ways.

“Offending everyone” doesn’t mean that you’re unbiased. On the contrary, it means that you’re chock-a-block with biases, so there’s some for everyone who’s not YOU. Der Drumpf offends black people, Mexicans, Muslims, etc. because he is a raving racist. He offends women because he is a raving sexist. He offends LGBT+ people because he is a raving homophobe. And so on.

Second, he has a great business record for mentoring and and promoting women. Actions speak.

Again, he’s done literally nothing for them. Unless by “mentoring and promoting”, you mean he sexually harasses them and tries to get into their pants.

And he is the most anti-rape candidate, ironically. That was part of his reasoning for limiting immigration. He took the risk of being labelled Hitler to protect American women. Or at least you could see it that way.

“Ironically”? You mean as in hipster sexism? Not sure how that shit prevents rape. It’s not as though being a Nazi somehow inactivates a man’s genitals, after all.

Also, he’s kind of bullish on actual rapists and their enablers, as long as they win football games a lot.

He’s pretty strong on that issue. And Clinton has her husband problems.

Yes, and Der Drumpf has his wife problems. Three of them, in fact. Not to mention whatever sidepieces he’s got, and other assorted ladies he’s trying to schtupp, and all the ones he’s either sexually assaulted or tried to.

But then again, it’s never immoral when rich men with an R after their names do it, eh?

One of his wives has actually accused him of rape. But he threatened her, and of course threw his money around, so she was forced into redacting it and silencing herself.

Yeah I know. (and yeah, I really should get rid of the “probably”) He also touched a young woman who was working for him inappropriately/sexually assaulted her.

Hey, I thought the commenters here would like this article! Too bad whatever changed this guy’s mind is behind a paywall.

Ah, yes, Hillary’s “husband problem.” Specifically, her husband is one of the most brilliant and popular politicians of the past 30 years and is obsessed with getting her elected. We should all have such problems.

Who remembers the 2012 elections when Karl Rove flat-out refused to believe Obama had won and made Megyn Kelly go down to the Fox News basement to find different news? That was the best thing ever.
