$MONEY$ kitties pledge drive self-promotion

Man Boobz Pledge Drive, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo!

Operators are standing by. (Pic from The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee website. Click on the pic to see the full photoshoot.)

Welcome to the 2nd twice-annual Man Boobz Pledge Drive!

I’ll keep this brief: If you enjoy this blog, and can afford it, please click on the “donate” button below and sending a few bucks my way. Or, if you’d prefer, a massive quantity of bucks. You don’t need a PayPal account to donate; you can use a credit card, and I think there are other options as well.

Things are still a bit lean here at Man Boobz manor, so any donations you can spare will be enormously appreciated by me and the kitties, and (indirectly) by my landlord.

If you can’t afford it, I completely understand; so many of you already contribute enormously to Man Boobz with your awesomely hilarious and smart comments, and strange drawings, and links to videos of kittens, and the like. At the time of the last pledge drive, back in March, you all had left a little more than 125,000 comments here; the total has just now gone over 200,000. Which is amazing to me.

So, congratulations, and thanks.

If you really want to get into the proper Pledge Drive mindset, watch the clip below from a KCTS9 Seattle PBS Pledge Drive sometime in the 80s (presumably) in which a slightly addled Pledge Wrangler gets some of her facts about the station a little confused. Including what channel she’s on.

If you want to get into a slightly different state of mind, watch this video instead, from eccentric (and extremely indie) musician R. Stevie Moore. I think this is what ELO would have sounded like if all their songs had been recorded in a basement in New Jersey.

EDITED TO ADD: I found the kitty pic atop this post on the web, uncredited. But a reader points out it’s actually from a photoshoot from The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee, a website set up by foster cat parents which uses its adorable pictures of kittens to find homes for said kittens as well as to raise money for the Tacoma/Pierce County Humane Society, from whence the kittens come. They’ve actually done a whole bunch of fundraising photoshoots over the years with new batches of kittens and an ever-more elaborate set. Check them out and maybe send them some $ too.

Just in case you missed the comment on Reddit, I wanted to repost it here:

“How is it that my comments are still visible here?”

I’m not exactly sure, but I think that they’re being automatically spam filtered, so I’m guessing that you can still post but the only way the comments show is if they’re unspammed by a moderator, as I’ve done for this one.

“I’ve contacted the admins about this, but I wonder if they even see my PMs.”

This is a pretty good question. You can send an email using the form here: at the bottom.

Good luck.

The reciever on the right toy phone is not long for this world. . .that kitten is planning nefariousism.

I donated what I could at this time, I will see if I can afford a bit more next week.

First-time commenter here. Thank you for everything you do! I only recently discovered this site, but I’m madly in love with it. I realized today that I anticipate an update from manboobz more anxiously than anything else in my RSS reader, and so I’ve tossed at least a little bit your way.

I’m more than happy to contribute to keep something like this going. Keep up the good work!

Wait, what is the reddit thing? I didn’t want to read through 300 comments on a previous thread, but I guess I must.

Is anyone else having issues trying to donate, I’ve had an error message crop up twice now once I’ve hit the pay button?

I’d really like to donate, but I’m going on maternity leave in less than 2 weeks, and thanks to the shitty female-unfriendly US laws, I don’t get paid maternity leave at all (so I have to use my savings for basic living expenses) and have to pay my entire 1600 per month premium to keep my health coverage while I’m out on leave. I may even have to go on temporary food stamps or other types of assistance just to get through the next couple of months unless I want to eat jello and ramen for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It will be worth it, though- I want to breastfeed again, and those first couple of months are essential for a newborn to have constant access to the boob. But once I get back to work again, I will totally be sending some green your way. This is a great blog!

Thanks for your site and i hope that the smallness of my donation is not seen as reflective on the value of your work to me. Imagine more like an inversely proportionate thing.

Another lurker here—due to time zone issues, I usually read posts far too late to be able to join the discussion before the Troll Battles begin. $20 should be winging its way over to you any time now.

Can I donate if I’d be donating in pounds? I’d better do it now before I head to University and blow all my money during Fresher’s week.

Big thanks to everyone who’s donated! And again, if you can’t donate, I still love you! (Trolls excepted.)

Kiwi, I’m not sure what to do about the glitches. Maybe try again in a different browser?

Historophilia, I think PayPal will handle the currency conversion if you donate in pounds. I’ve gotten donations from all over through PayPal with no problems (at this end, anyway).

Yeah, you can donate cross-currency easily if you use Paypal. Though sometimes it will make you put in an amount in dollars just to be confusing, so you have to make a rough poke at an amount. I usually just do a quick conversion using Google and splork in a dollar amount close to what I wanted to donate in pounds, and Paypal does the rest itself.

That doesn’t happen every time though, and granted I could be really stupid and missing an option to switch it over to pounds for the input box. 😛

Dualityheart, I usually donate $10. This time, I donated $20, $10 from me and $10 from you. You can cover another person’s donation somewhere, someday, when you’re able.

Hi David, I just tried again in Chrome and in Firefox, and I get the same error page with both browsers. Grrr PayPal.

heyyy, I’m a lurker too and a broke one at that… just wanted to pop in and say you should credit the original source of that pic. it was stolen from the itty bitty kitty committee (dot com), your best source for cute kittens and heartwarming fostering stories. 🙂

Even more grrr, I may have spent four times as much I was expecting to, as I notice 4 x $1 holding charges on my account from PayPal. And I haven’t received any emails from PayPal indicating I have charged my debit card. /sigh

sent you an email from my work account–erm, first name starting with R–it just hit me you might not remember the connection!

head…not working all that well.

Thanks, everyone!

And thanks for the info, Katy; I added a credit and some links to the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee, which looks to be an awesome site and a good cause.

Kiwi girl, email me with the name you used to make your donations, and I can let you know if your donation went through, and refund you if paypal’s glitches caused you to donate more than you meant to.

Clairedammit has raised my faith in humanity; my heart has grown three sizes 🙂 <3 to you, clairedammit!

Lesson for the day: if you’re not in the US then PayPal customer service can’t help you and keeps giving out random alternative customer support phone numbers, that are also not based in your own country (because the number length is wrong).

Clairedammit/heidihi, what an awesome thing to do! Makes me think that more people who can’t donate should pipe up in comments, maybe there are more Clairedammits out there…

Kiwi Girl, I appreciate the effort! Damn paypal.

Thanks again, everyone, and thanks claire for your lovely act of paying it forward (even though I sort of hate that phrase).
