Open Thread for Personal Stuff: June 2015 Dawg Needs a Break Edition

Rainey was our sick little kitty. Sorry i wasn’t very clear. She passed away peacefully around her familiar smells, warm and loved. We’ll get her ashes back next week along with a plaster cast paw print. I got some of her fur, too, both the black and the white. She was, we think, about 13. She was a stray that we got from a foster home. She was so scared when we brought her home that she hid under the futon for a week. Later once she became more comfortable she would greet every stranger at the door! She went from scaredy cat to getting into everything! She was a great cat, loving in her own way. We will miss her a lot. Guess that goes without saying. I’ll be crying off and on for the next few days. I’ll feel better when she’s back home again.

I’m thinking of playing a couple of games of the “Famous Locations” game, just out of interest to see just what sort of locations count as being famous and if there are indeed any outside of Europe and the USA.

If you’re Finnish and older than Internet, you might remember the TV sketch show Kummeli and one particular running joke on “geography quiz” where the contestants were shown extremely recognizable locations from France, Italy etc enforced with some silly national stereotypes. Then the contestants would invariably declare:

“The answer is…Canada!!!”

(At the time we knew Canada was an relatively important western country but there was a distinct lack of national stereotypes about Canada. I mean, yes they played ice hockey but doesn’t everyone?)

A summary of tonight’s episode of Game of Thrones leaked and I got spoiled. I’m so fucking pissed.

I really need to share the amazing Android game “Neko atsume”. It’s a game about cats. Yes indeed, I am Finnish, and I’m also old enough to remember “Kummeli”. It was a pretty awesome show for the first couple of seasons, but it became much too repetitive for my tastes. Well, at least my grown-up tastes, when I made the mistake of watching the DVDs a few years back. 😀 I remember the “Canada” quiz very well, but do you remember the “Where are we with Jouko and Kosti?” segments? I think they were usually confined to fairly obvious spots in Finland but they were quite hilarious.

I’ve been playing as hard as I can and dragging my kids with me. I’m still not entirely sorted out. But I’m good. It’s a process. We’re having so much fun.

I’ve been out so much and the aggressively friendly people aren’t bothering me anymore. They are just as friendly and chatty as ever. I just don’t mind. I can’t go anywhere without getting compliments and that usually bothers me. It’s nice now. People are nice. They aren’t cats, but they’re OK.

Guess what I get the most compliments on? Your going to love this.

Boys and girls are especially forward with their praise. One little girl at the pool reached up and touched my hair like she was testing to see if it was real. She said, “It’s blue but it’s perfect.” High praise.

I’ve been wearing my two piece bathing suit to the pool. I’m wearing running shorts and tank tops to frolic around in. It feels fantastic to feel the sun and the breeze.

Haters can kiss my ample ass.

Happiness is to bigoted shitlords what sunlight is to vampires and bacteria. I keep thinking of the saying, “The best revenge is living well” and I agree.

Thanks to David and assorted Mammotheers for all the laughs. Keep them coming! It is such a delight to be reminded how kind, clever and strong people can be, especially in light of the subject matter. I read these posts and try not to laugh smoothie out my nose. Y’all are funny. You slay me. The people David mocks are dedicated to spreading misery. It’s like they have a disease that they are desperate to spread or that they think making other people miserable might lessen their own. Instead they’re making us laugh. They’re disgusting, incompetent and thanks to the way you all dissect their twaddle, amusing.

One of my little trans sisters just pulled a knife and threatened to cut herself but fortunately I realized she was going for the knife drawer and got there right after her and grabbed it from her. But now the other trans sister took of in the car we share and we don’t know where she is and I’m so worried about both of them. What if she crashes the car? What if the other one has something sharp in her room? I don’t know what to do and I’m just a shaking crying mess now

In personal news, I’m feeling like a kid the day before Xmas because the newest expansion to EU4, “Common Sense”, is coming out tomorrow. It should be available for download sometime in the afternoon CEST tomorrow, so I’ll be on tenterhooks until then.

I would like to thank whomever it was on this site who talked about The Goblin Emperor in such glowing terms; I had never heard of the book before, but now I have read it and it is fantastic.
