For today’s MEMEDAY celebration, some memes from our side!
Some unknown (by me) person came up with the brilliant — if in hindsight totally obvious — idea of pasting actual quotes from the famously narcissistic Donald Trump over pictures of the equally narcissistic Zapp Brannigan, a spaceship captain from the show Futurama who is basically, as a show producer once explained, “half Captain Kirk, half actual William Shatner.”
The memes are hilarious in and of themselves  — you can find more here and here.
What makes them even more hilarious is that Billy West, the voice actor who played Brannigan, has started doing dramatic readings of them and posting the results on Twitter.Â

Too perfect! Just so long as you can set aside for a moment the fact that we could, for real, end up with the 21st century equivalent of Zapp Brannigan as our actual president.

You know what’s awesome about this (aside from everything)? Think about how often MRAcists use Futurama memes, from “Not sure if X” to “Shut up and take my money.” And the guy who voices half the damn show is using his popularity to mock their Führer.

Billy West is amazing. These are fantastic.
This is the kind of thing that fits so perfectly it weirds me out.
Why it’s so good. Trump is older, less pretty Zapp.
Fantastic. Hope even more that Trump doesn’t win, so West doesn’t have to high-tail it to Canada to avoid Mr. No-Sense-Of-Humor-Havin’, Thin-Skinned Jackass.
The character was written for Phil Hartman, but he died before he could voice Zapp, so that’s how Billy West ended up with it.
Billy West is a national treasure.

I have mixed feelings about Donald and Hobbes. Calvin had a yuuuuuge vocabulary.
Zapp did have Kif, who was a good guy and a competent officer, so I guess he would be better than Trump.
I do wonder what fellow Futurama castmate Maurice LaMarche (a Republican and member of conservative Hollywood networking group Friends of Abe) thinks of these…
Ghost Robot: Short of him actually saying anything, I’m thinking he’d find them pretty funny. From what I understand the whole Hollywood voice acting community is a really chummy BFF squad.
@Thiazin red on the other hand, Zapp spent most of his time being subordinate to that Richard Nixon character which probably undoes any sensibleness Kif brought to the table.
Now that I mention it, I’m wondering if Nixon’s voice would be an even better fit?
