If you weren’t actually out there marching, or compulsively scrolling your social media feeds, you might not have been aware that there were huge protests against the Trump regime all over the US on Saturday, with some estimating a turnout as high as 4 million people. Media coverage was scant; I seem to remember a hell of a lot more coverage back in the day of Tea Party protests drawing only dozens of obvious weirdos. Apparently in 2025, millions of justifiably angry Americans, including a surprising number in tiny towns in red states, standing up to a literal fascist regime isn’t newsworthy.
Some of you who missed hearing about the protests, either before or afterwards, might wonder: how exactly can I find out about future protests before they happen? So I can, like, participate in or at least publicize them? Here’s a quick and I hope useful look.
I should start out by saying that, unfortunately, as I learned from a quick inspection of various protest-trackers online, many of them basically suck ass. I tried searching for protests in Chicago on a number of these sites that showed up on Google and they pulled up … literally nothing.
So here are a few that will get you results–some more than others.
Mobilize.us listed a ton of events coming up in Chicago and environs, from a MoveOn protest demanding freedom for Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a neighborhood “know your rights” canvassing event informing local businesses what their options are “if ICE comes knocking.” They also list virtual events, and allow you to search for events around certain causes.
FindAProtest.info pulled up a list of completely different events, including anti-Trump student walkouts and a rally against police torture.
Pol-Rev.com listed only one event–50501’s big march scheduled for May 1. (You can also access this site through 50501’s page, which also offers a range of other resources for would-be protesters.) Oddly, neither Mobilize nor FindAProtest listed this protest, though it is the biggest one coming up.
So if you’re looking for protests and other political events in your area, I’d suggest doing a search on all three of these sites instead of just one. Otherwise you’re likely to miss a lot of the options out there.
Oh, and if you want to tweak Musk as well as Trump, check out Action Network’s #TeslaTakedown page.
Other ways of learning about upcoming events is to join an activist organization like, say, DSA.
Here are some other sites that’ll help you prepare for protests.

Useful, David, thanks!
You want I should Scatter it on BSky?
I was aware of at least some of the protests going on, but unfortunately kept having to miss them due to previous obligations, or once because I was sick, or in another case, because of an event which I purchased tickets months in advance and wasn’t about to give up for anything. It also doesn’t help that I live in a small town and have to travel some distance to get to them, as none are nearby as far as I’m aware. Fortunately I *should* be able to attend the nearest May 1 protest, though with my luck so far who knows. (At least it’s not the weekend of May 3-4. For then, I have the previous obligation of helping someone out with moving across the state.)
Crip Dyke, absolutely! Thanks!
