#ResistTrump by standing up against his refugee ban! UPDATED WITH PROTEST INFO

Reworked Nazi poster by Dylan Vermeul; text reads “this one is to blame for war!” Click on pic to go to dylanvermeul.com

So Trump’s Muslim-ban-that-he-says-isn’t-a-Muslim-ban is already creating chaos at airports across the country, as refugees and others (including green card holders) who were literally in the air when Trump’s plan went into effect have been detained for, well, whatever they are being detained for, as Trump’s executive order was a bit vague. Because he likes signing things and getting his picture taken and doesn’t really give a shit about the details.

This is something straight out of Nazi Germany, and that’s no hyperbole. It’s an offensive and unconstitutional act, opposed to everything this county should and sometimes even does stand for. It will make the world a more dangerous place for Americans, especially those serving overseas. It will be a powerful recruiting tool for ISIS.

So:

CALL YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS! Yes, it’s Saturday, but leave a message if you can, and follow up by writing an email. Call their local offices if you can’t leave a message at their DC offices.

You can find the name and contact info for your representative here, and for your senators here. You can find email forms on their official websites.

See my posts here and here for information and advice on how to make your calls and emails effective. If making these sorts of calls is tough for you, here’s some advice on calling politicians if you have social anxiety.

JOIN A LOCAL PROTEST IF YOU CAN! A spontaneous protest has started at New York’s JFK airport; it’s drawn several hundred protesters so far. Al Jazeera is reporting that “other protests [are] expected to take place at airports in San Francisco and Washington, DC, among other US cities,” but unfortunately I don’t have any info about them or contact info for the organizers.

UPDATE: Here’s a frequently updated list of dozens of protests with links to more info on each.

If you know of protests being planned, post what you know in the comments below. Thanks!

EDITED TO ADD:

If you’re in Chicago, there’s a protest planned at O’Hare tonight:

Chicago O’Hare Airport, Terminal 5 at 6pm today, Jan 28

https://www.facebook.com/events/250068195420582/

I don’t know who is planning this so be careful if you decide to go.

I found out about this in an email from Avazz, You might want to sign up with them to find out about protests near you.

Anyone else know of anything?

UPDATE:

Click through the Tweet below to see a Twitter thread with info on dozens of protests around the country either happening now or planned for the next few days. I’ve copied the info from the thread below, but the Twitter thread itself will have the most complete and up-to-date info and any changes in plans. Not to mention links that actually work.

@Moggie
Their voters aren’t concerned with things like “reality”, “plans” or “victory.” Just “fight hard yeah = access to heaven.” Remember that a significant amount of them are literal death cultists who think that by sacrificing thousands of jews in Israel they can kickstart the Rapture (read: apocalypse) to lure Jesus out so he can fling them to heaven.

This has just been posted by UK national treasure, and Quorn enthusiast, Mo Farah:

On 1st January this year, Her Majesty The Queen made me a Knight of the Realm. On 27th January, President Donald Trump seems to have made me an alien.

I am a British citizen who has lived in America for the past six years – working hard, contributing to society, paying my taxes and bringing up our four children in the place they now call home. Now, me and many others like me are being told that we may not be welcome. It’s deeply troubling that I will have to tell my children that Daddy might not be able to come home – to explain why the President has introduced a policy that comes from a place of ignorance and prejudice.

I was welcomed into Britain from Somalia at eight years old and given the chance to succeed and realise my dreams. I have been proud to represent my country, win medals for the British people and receive the greatest honour of a knighthood. My story is an example of what can happen when you follow polices of compassion and understanding, not hate and isolation.

Homegrown radicalization is more of an issue than people coming from other countries. You’re increasing the risk if young moderate Muslims don’t feel like they belong here.

Radicalization has already been achieved. This is the end result of years upon years of warped right-wing rhetoric demonizing any and every group that isn’t cis-het, white, “christian”, and (mainly) male.

Was chaos the real goal of this ban?

It may have been the goal… these people are pretty stupid.

Alternatively, I believe the chaos results from the poor planning that’s a genetic component of trump. He truly believes he can make something work just by wanting it to. He’s had that mindset all his adult life, and he’s never had to face any consequences from it. He also truly believes he can do the same thing after the fact, i.e. make something have been successful just by saying it was.

Bannon is a talker, not a “do”-er. ( I believe the dumpster keeps him around to stoke the bigot base) Bannon doesn’t appreciate the amount of logistics that actually implementing his ideology requires, so when the cheeto asks Bannon to help draft a Muslim ban, the the “Excretive Order” ends up being “all teeth and no chew”… so to speak.

ETA: is everything on these threads going thru moderation? I know I ghange what’s in the parentheses of my ‘nym a lot, and I prolly don’t get it accurate, ‘cuz I’m slow… anyway, just wondering.

@Weird Eddie:
Any time your nym changes, even if only by an iota, you go into moderation.

Count me as another who isn’t ready to feel concern for the tender fee-fees of Trump voters. I continue to be flabbergasted by comments on Facebook, the latest being a woman who was going about how racism against whites is just as bad as racism against people of color. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! As a white woman, I was able to take part in a peaceful march and be reasonably certain I wasn’t going to experience violence from law enforcement, unlike many BLM protesters who were taking part in equally peaceful marches. Hell, I was able to drive my car there and not be stopped by police just because of the color of my skin. My teenage sons and their friends are able to go to the local convenience store to buy snacks and come home without being attacked by a cop wanna-be who thinks they don’t belong in the neighborhood because of their skin color. It’s discouraging to realize that there hasn’t been as much progress on racial issues in this country as there should have been.

Laughter at Bigots:

Ever since the 23rd Jumada Al-Akhirah, 1422, there was a huge amount of anti-Christian bigotry, which conservative types flippantly dismissed with “Christianity is not a race!”

Meanwhile, American Atheist thought leader Sham Haar-rish persistently advocated profiling travelers who might “conceivably” be worshipers of Virgin Mary.

Good News:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/thinkprogress.org/amp/p/efcbbe4f93c5?client=safari

“Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) said all of the Democrats on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will oppose Betsy Devos, President Trump’s nominee for education secretary.

Franken broke the news on The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC on Thursday. The committee will vote on whether to confirm the Michigan-based philanthropist on Tuesday of next week, and Franken said Democrats also plan to find Republicans to oppose her.

This opposition contrasts with Ben Carson’s confirmation process, which he sailed through earlier this week, despite the fact that he has no experience with housing policy or working in government. The Senate Banking Committee, which includes 11 Democrats, unanimously approved his nomination. Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) in particular have been grilled by progressives, who demand to know why they voted in favor of Carson.”

Though part of me wonders how much of it is due to her being female and how much is because you know, theocrat, scam charter school advocate and all that awful stuff.

I’d thought I’d just leave here the ways I’ve been resisting Trump’s policies in case nobody has heard of these websites.

It’s hard with my social anxiety to really get uber-involved. I’m working my way up. I’ve started with Five Call because it gives you a list of calls to make, contacts and scripts to use. Plus it takes less than a half hour of time to do and calling is one of the most effective ways to get your governmental representatives to actually listen to you.

https://5calls.org/

I’ve also been reading through the information on Indivisible because it goes into detail what needs to be done to get a grassroots movement to work, explains how Congress works and gives the best way to get Congress to listen to us. It was put together by former congressional staffers and the local chapters are really growing. Hopefully I can get to the point where I can actually join one.

There was a protest that began today at 2:00 pm at the Birmingham, AL airport.

http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2017/01/protestors_chant_march_at_airp.html#incart_river_home

Also, I think this came up earlier about the countries that were excluded from Trump’s order. Turns out those excluded from his order are the ones in which he has businesses.

yeah I think those are all countries that already have long standing good relations with the U.S which is why trump has businesses dealings with them in the first place. I’m afraid we might have to give him a pass on this one.

One more thing for Brits:

There’s a protest in London outside 10 Downing Street today, Monday, at 6pm (so after work!) I missed the women’s march due to disabled nonsense but will be at this one. It’s against Theresa May’s ridiculous lack of reaction to the Muslim ban.

Million and a half and counting.

There are anti-Trump protests around Britain tomorrow and Wednesday, as well as this evening.

Best banner tonight: “This is so bad, even the introverts are out”.

@ bluecat

I’m a sucker for a Father Ted reference but apart from the usual two signs we also now have “So I hear you’re a racist now Theresa?”

The winner is possibly “Super callous, fragile racist, sexist nazi, POTUS”

But I quite liked the homemade charm of “Piece of cardboard against Trump”

That petition to “prevent Donald Trump from making a State Visit to the United Kingdom” is slowing down: “only” 1.6m now. I’ve just learned that there’s an opposing petition. The wording is:

Donald Trump should be invited to make an official State Visit because he is the leader of a free world and U.K. is a country that supports free speech and does not believe that people that appose our point of view should be gagged.

Despite its semi-literate nature, it looks like it will pass the 100k point.

…was that counter-petition written by an American? I always thought “leader of the free world” was just an Americanism.

Considering that the UK doesn’t actually have the freeze peach laws they’re basing their entire “Argument” on (quite the contrary, in fact), that’s a pretty safe bet.
