Here’s a little screenshot apparently from 4chan’s /pol/ that’s been making the rounds on the internet; I found it in the Men’s Rights subreddit. THIS IS WHY LIFE IS SO DARN EASY FOR YOU LADIES!
Wow, I didn’t even know about most of these! (Ok, I lied. I’ve seen MRAs and MGTOWs and their ilk complaining about pretty much all of these, er, facts before.)
So, ladies, which of these FEMALE PRIVILEGES are your favorites? I think I like the one about voting without having to face any “national consequences” best. Apparently all women live in different countries than the ones they vote in? WHO KNEW?
My favorite is how we celebrate National Abortion Month! Where we women are feted daily for legally “murdering” children!
Particularly fond of the required Homage to Murderesses that must be performed daily by all men of the county, where each man must crawl on his belly to make an offering of bon bons at the local Abortion Center (Planned Parenthood) daily, for later distribution to the women in the area.
Cash and prizes abound all month long!
I keep forgetting that there are no women’s prisons and election results only affect men.
1. Patently false
2. Neither can men (Over here anyway)
3. Took a while though; and how is that now any different from men?
4. Myra Hindley would beg to differ .
5. Probably more pressure on women than men when it comes to dress. Generally we don’t have to wear high heels and make-up to work.
6. Not over here. Equal contact is the starting point.
7. Again, simply not true (well, here at least)
8. No they can’t. A woman can withdraw consent, but not retrospectively.
I appreciate I’m coming from a Brit-centric perspective; but is it really any different elsewhere?
Mine too, dreemr! I also like “can’t be sent to prison” so I can do whatever my lady heart desires! Look out, Nazis! These fists are meant for punchin’!
@Alan: Yep, same here in the states!
#4 is called Casey Anthony here
Wow, I wouldn’t have pegged /pol/ people as pro-lifers. I wonder how many of them have children or intend to have them? *full-body shudder*
I’m heartily sick of this argument. What are the chances, in the year 2017, that any American man will be drafted and sent to war? Sit down. If you freak out about purely hypothetical injustices, chances are you’re not as oppressed as you think you are.
It’s like people who complain about the lifeboats on the Titanic. They are bemoaning situations that happened generations ago and were actually the result of the patriarchy’s old-timey chivalric traditions and the idea that women are weak.
/pol/ was involved recently in the planning and orchestration of a massive attack on transgender women online. I believe it was shut down as a result. Is it back up?
Hardest hit is Sophie Labelle, author and artist of the webcomic “Assigned Male” — although I know other transgender women who have been harassed. Sophie was forced to shut down her page and etsy site, her primary source of income, and she and her roommate have had to move out of their apartment as of two days ago because she has been doxxed and repeatedly threatened with death.
Last I checked (last night before bed) the attacks were ongoing as she refuses to take down her Facebook page. It was hacked as of last night. I haven’t been back to check it out. Have a look for yourselves, though.
Some of my friends who’ve stood up for her have also been harassed. I am about to go check on everyone now. I saw /pol/ in the headline here and thought I’d stop in and confirm what unspeakable monsters they are.
@ #Ravenclaw: Everything you just said! x 9,000!!! 👏 Have an Internet and a cookie if you want!
Yeah, there’s no draft here at the moment, either.
Gosh. I had no idea that when I vote, I won’t have to suffer any consequences. Guess voting for improved roads and schools, not to mention who’s going to be president or senator or representative only affects Mr. Parasol and not me.
I can’t possibly choose just ONE of those fabulous female privileges! They’re all just so AWESOME!
He missed the privilege that grants women super powers of the sexy butt which, when combined with the mind control vagina goo powers, gives women the ability to control their boss and random guys on the street! We just *love* sexual harassment and street harassment! /s/
Let’s break this down.
Women’s prisons are a thing.
It is men who control the draft and decide who gets drafted.
Women can be drafted if They are nurses or doctors.
If we could pass the ERA, women could be drafted. But anti-feminists won’t stand for that.
Women in the military have been denied the right to combat pay, even when they are actually involved in active combat, because on paper they are never in active combat. It is forbidden to them. They receive no honors or promotions based upon it either. They do get killed, wounded, maimed and traumatized by that combat no one will recognize officially happened. We have been denied positions as pilots and navigators too. If you want to draft us, your going to have to allow us to do the same jobs men do OFFICIALLY and pay and honor us for that work.
No one has been drafted in the US in 40 years.
The draft is bullshit. Abolish it entirely.
Last I heard, women will be registering for the draft beginning in 2018.
We fucking live here. We face plenty of consequences.
In a divorce the children usually live with the parent who was the primary caregiver during the marriage. If men want to stay home and raise babies, they’ll be more likely to be the residential parent.
75% of men who ask for primary custody get it. Most men do not request it.
Some states, like mine, automatically grant shared custody and ask the parents to work out residential issues in their own.
His wealth? She is entitled to half the marital belongings and debt because marital property and debt is shared. Husbands do not own everything, including the wife. It doesn’t matter why a marriage disolves, people retain their legal rights and responsibilities.
Sadly, rape rarely ruins a man’s life. But, it should. No one “retroactively” withdrawals consent. But anyone can withdrawal consent at any time during the sex act. If you then continue in with that sex act, you are a rapist and you belong in prison.
When you are the victim of a crime, you’re testimony is evidence. That is true even if you are a woman and even if the person assaulting you is not. That is not a privilege. That is as it should be.
Rape is a crime seldom punished because victims are afraid to report, prosecutors are not keen to try a case they feel they are unlikely to win and juries are biased as fuck in the favor of the rapist. But, yes, when someone says they were raped, there is no rational reason to doubt them. Rape is falsely reported less than 2% of the time (2% is the average false reporting stat for all crimes. False rape reports are vanishingly rare.) when you factor in victims bullied into recanting and strangers rapes where the victim identifies the incorrect person in a line up as the attacker. (In such instances it has found that the victim has sometimes been misled by the police into identifying the wrong person. Malice on the part of the victim is not the cause. Honest confusion or police coercion is.)
Keep tilting at those windmills, douche nozzles. It’s all you seem to know how to do.
I live in a country with an actual draft, which only applies to men between the ages 18-30 (although you remain in the reserves until you turn 40). Women are allowed to join the armed forces on a volunteer basis, although they are allowed to leave the armed forces until the end of basic training which lasts for a month. Basically, what the draft means for most men over here is going to the woods to play at being a soldier for anything between 6 to 13 months depending on your service branch. Or possibly learning to fly and playing at being a soldier. Or sailing on one of the glorious vessels of our navy (think Coast Guard boats with a pea shooter on the bow) and, you guessed it, playing at being a soldier. Sure, you won’t be working or studying for those months, but you do get paid a daily honorarium for the time you spend in the armed forces. The draft will be a part of Finnish life for the foreseeable future, though so there’s no point to complaining. 🙁
People on /pol/ are probably not pro-lifers. Many would probably support (or say they support) legal abortion, marriage equality, single-payer healthcare, and universal basic income. But they strongly oppose any type of “identity politics”-based movement for social equality that demands radical measures like mutual respect and people changing their behavior. They (rightly) see feminism as limiting their supposed right (male privilege) to do whatever they want. So opposing “SJW’s” is much more important to them than other political issues.
For the most part, they’re “pretending” to be neo-Nazis because their goal is to “trigger” feminists and others “for teh lulz.” That makes them functionally equivalent to real neo-Nazis, of course. They’re actually “triggered” and deeply offended by feminism and “identity politics” (plus other stuff people in chan culture hate), so they project their emotional sensitivity and insecurity onto whomever they’re targeting at the moment.
Oh, I skipped the “murder” one. Here it is:
A fetus is not a child and abortion is not murder. What goes on in my body is my business and mine to decide. Fuck forced birthers. Fuck them right off into the sun.
History Nerd,
You know what the difference between being a “real” Nazi and just acting like and promoting propaganda like on is?
Not one damn thing.
Seriously. Take out Nazi and put in “racist”, “homophobe” or “misogynist”. See how when you talk like one so that people fear for their rights and lives it is the same thing as being one?
@History Nerd
These people are “ironically sexist” like how they’re “ironically antisemitic.” Or how they “ironically” call for genocide, christian theocracy, slavery of all other races, sexes, genders and others.
They’re not “ironic” because they’re not mocking the bigotry itself. They’re functionally the same as the “real thing” and they’re truly despicable people.
Re: /pol/ on abortion, I saw one of them post something that I think a lot of them would get behind. Something like “I’m conflicted about abortion. On the one hand, I oppose it because it empowers women. On the other hand, I support it because it kills babies.” So…yeah. Also they sometimes claim to “support” it as a means of eugenics.
Re: Nazism, I listened to The Right Stuff podcast one time, and all I remember was: “I really believe that we should have comprehensive, single-payer healthcare. (pause) But only for white people, obviously.”
And yep: superficial brocialism + opposition to anything that might limit your own privilege = congrats, you’re an actual Nazi in 2017.
So what do they think Orange is the New Black is based on?
Many like single payer because it’s not a means-tested welfare program and would claim they’re ambivalent about race, even though that suggests a deep resentment about paying for healthcare for disadvantaged minority groups.
They like some old “liberal” arguments in favor of abortion and assisted suicide, like that they reduce healthcare costs from people with disabilities and chronic conditions, old people, poor people, etc. They are not humanist pro-lifers who want to give rights to the embryo or fetus at all.
I like the can’t be sent to prison one. I bet there’s an MRA out there somewhere saying that Chelsea Manning is faking being trans so she could have the female privilege of not going to prison.
How big of a rock does one have to live under to not know that there are prisons for women?
And what consequences do we not that face when we vote that men do? I don’t understand how there are people who still think that half of the adults shouldn’t have the right to vote because genitals and emotions causing irrationality. It boggles the mind. Men get angry, go on mass shootings, experience road rage and hurt people (a guy got killed not far from where I live just yesterday because of that) and it’s women who are too emotional to be rational?
Really, Julian Assange should have thought of that. It’s the guaranteed way to ensure that he doesn’t get shipped off to some CIA black prison!
@Scout
The hypothetical possibility of being drafted. These jackasses are of the apparent belief that war is the only possible outcome of politics.
@Monzach:
Not to mention that the last time (last year) people tried to change the draft into more equal responsibility… and you can guess which parties
shot it down and what were the reasons for it.
Blegh.
So, the ‘wear whatever they want in public while persecuting others wearing other things’ point I’m getting is the plus size person is wearing a crop top in public when before they would be advised against it due to weight/body shame VS why can’t I wear my nazi uniform to trigger feminists and Jewish people without being judged!!!!!
I wonder tiring it would be spewing the same bullshit over and over again for months, years? Racist, anti-Semitic, sexist, homophobic, transphobic bullshit.
@Skiriki (putting on my pretend-MRA hat) Clearly the women shot down the more equal draft!
@ dalillama
I think they heard this, then implied an “inevitable” in there.
If the threat of being drafted at any time so clearly upsets these men, imagine how they’d handle the constant threat of rape and murder like women (especially trans women) (extra especially like black trans women) endure?
I’m not saying I don’t think the threat of being drafted doesn’t cause trauma. I do. But to hear these guys moan in about it, your think it was the worst thing anyone ever had to deal with. This is a version of the phenomenon of white men thinking their hangnail is a more serious problem than someone else’s bullet wound.
It is very telling that while black and disabled men are under constant threat of being murdered by police, that never makes the list of grievances.
LGBTQ men are under threat of hate crimes and being denied things like jobs, housing, custody and service. Why don’t we see those things on the list of men’s dire concerns and injustice toward them?
Muslim men are treated like terrorists and cannot travel freely in the US. Why isn’t that ever a “men’s right” concern?
Why are the most safe and coddled among us so aggrieved, bitter and whiny?
@Haise, the husky puppy
I took that particular passage to mean that women wear whatever they want and expect not to be raped for it, while also making fun of SS uniforms, etc.
I don’t even know what they meant by the clothing one.
But really, “persecuting”? This is what I’m talking about.
If they do not get their way without any hint of pushback, even if their way harms someone else, they are persecuted. I don’t think they are being dishoest. I think they literally believe someone calling them an asshole for wearing a “Make me a sandwich” shirt is persecution and the same as a woman being blamed for being raped because of the shoes she wore.
@weirwoodtreehugger: chief manatee
You would win that bet. I distinctly remember that in 2013, not just one MRA but many commenters on a conservative blog I used to lurk were rolling their eyes at what they all agreed was a transparent ruse to avoid sentencing to a men’s prison. Ugh.
Dreemr,
Oh, it could be that.
“If I wear a swastika, I might get punched and that’s not fair if I can’t rape a woman for showing some thigh”.
TW: rape, victim blaming, sex work
Because they see our bodies existing without being hidden as provocation to sexual violence, as sign that we are not properly humble and afraid of them. In their minds it is an implied insult to them. It isn’t lust that motivates a man to assault a woman in a miniskirt. It is rage and wounded pride. He is putting her back in her place, teaching her to fear him and men in general. The acceptable threshold for how much of a woman’s body constitutes enough to move a man to rape and murder depends on the culture. In TN recently a woman’s shoes were used to discredit her as a rape victim. Her SHOES!
This is why I believe serial killers so often attack sex workers and why a woman’s sexual history can be used against her in court. Getting paid for sex or even just having multiple lovers suggest a woman owns her own body and sexuality. It insults men who feel we should behave as if we are their possessions and that we should be subservient to them in all ways and times.
Rape is never about sex. It is always about power.
A swastika is a threat of torture and mass murder. It would not shock me if the writer of this list does indeed see a woman happy in her own body as “just as” threatening, because he feels more entitled not just to her body, but to her fear than he sees other people as entitled to their lives.
Seems to be a very common ailment among the privileged these days – look at Drumpf and his witch-hunt, or friggin’ Pence saying Christians are the most persecuted group these days, with a straight friggin’ face.
They haven’t even actually LOST any privileges, they are merely under the threat of losing their incredible advantages (or rather, everyone else is becoming aware that they enjoy more advantages than most others) and they are freaking out.
I honestly don’t get it.
White men in power love to claim they are victims of lynching and witch hunts, literally things white men in power have never had to fear, but have historically used to oppress others.
They are appropriating the very violence historically used to keep them in power to discredit any threats to their power.
@Haise
Exactly. Chan culture is basically an excuse for juvenile/young adult delinquency (extended up to your late thirties by now). It’s all about “why can’t I trigger people with no consequences?”
They feel persecuted because they are measuring from a baseline not of equality, but of the world they were born into and grew up in. The “good old days.” And, using this self-centered measurement, they are correct: a chart of white male domination of almost any field over the course of the 70-year-old Donald Trump’s lifetime would show a downward slope. People who are not white men are more visible in the US in 2017 than they were in the US in 1946.
I think that’s key to how they often manage to start with accurate facts and derive strange conclusions from them. They can state with a straight face that a decline from say 90% of X are white men to 70% of of X are white men, especially if there have been concerted efforts to make X more inclusive, is systemic oppression against them.
Their definition of “normal” rejects equality and presumes the level of white supremacy of their youth, so they experience any decline from that amount as oppression. That’s also how they can acknowledge that racists exist but claim that they are unicorns (they = Trump/Pence types, not proud racists like the Daily Stormer).
Monzach:
There is a point to complaining, but I suggest that we retain a sense of proportion with this issue.
The 20-something people who started using 4chan in 2003 are now in their mid-to-late thirties.
Although I am generally a Let’s-let-EVERYONE-vote kinda gal, I’d be in favor of revoking the right to vote from anyone who believes any of that sh*t.
Seriously, anyone so ignorant and removed from reality… you should not vote on things of national importance.
History Nerd just nailed the mindset of the average 4channer. Clearly none of them have read Vonnegut, who wrote brilliantly at the end of Mother Night:
Just as a side observation: do these guys read any literature? Not to be a snob, but the parables contained in any number of classic books should have opened the rank-and-file Channer up the perils and pitfalls of operating as they do. Hamlet alone should serve as a cautionary tale of how myopic obsession can lead one to destruction.
It’s dismaying how small-minded these people are. It can’t all be chalked up to youth; I mean, I had my moments of thinking the world revolved around me, but this nihilistic pursuit of “lulz” from the pain of others just baffles me. A part of me wants to strap them to a chair and hold their eyes open Ludavico-style and force them to watch the final speech from The Great Dictator until it penetrates their skulls:
Any time I’m feeling put low by the alt-right and the Donald Trump sideshow, Chappers is there to remind me of why we do what we do.
@JS
Good, that was a guess #1. You still got two guesses left!
Wait, my sister can’t be sent to prison? I think I have an idea how we can raise the money for the down payment on our condo…
We just have to hit a different bank than the one we’re getting the mortgage from, right?
(/sarcasm)
Lea,
I know I’m sick to death of Trump saying he’s the victim of a witch hunt when we all know he’d gleefully cheer women being executed and tortured back in the witch trial days.
@ preuxfox
boy do i LOVE wearing whatever i want in public! as a young fat woman no one EVER polices my body. i definitely never got in trouble for violating “dress code” in school. and i was never taught that wearing too little clothing would cause men to be unable to stop themselves from raping me. what a strange world that would be, huh?
/s -_-
@History Nerd:
@Serebrianyi Golub:
@Gussie Jives:
I’ve said before that the best description I can find for the chan philosophy is evangelical nihilism. They believe that nothing matters, and they get surprisingly offended that others disagree.
Every so often I get into a discussion about science or video games with channers. I’m always puzzled by the fact that while they sometimes have surface enthusiasm for such things, they almost never love them enough to do anything with them; and get downright hostile when you ask them about it.
(As an aside, the best way I’ve found to really annoy a channer, should you feel the need to, is to ask them what their perfect indie video game would be; then volunteer to help them program it. The moment that I suggest that they actually do any work, they suddenly turn against the project. They would rather do nothing at all than help to create value in the world, even if it’s value that they themselves came up with.)
This, I think, is why channers are drawn to atheist spaces and other places where they can “debate”: tearing down ideas, and hurting people who date to holding beliefs, are things that fit naturally into their evangelical nihilism.
Chaplin… that was something, wasn’t it? Starts off kinda slow and wooden, but it definitely improves as he gets into it. Not just a comedian!
Of course women have no stake in national consequences.. they can’t be drafted!
But men can’t be drafted at the moment either… um, um.. um….
Of course, nothing else matters to women, not the economy, their health, the environment…
Oh, wait.. of all the issues women vote on, “the draft” was probably not even mentioned…
Hmm, MRA reasoning is hard to follow…
Not to take anything away from Chaplin, but that was Hitler’s style of speaking that he’s imitating. Hitler, while supposedly very charismatic in person, had terrible stage fright, and would have to get “warmed up” before he really got into it.
There was a documentary I saw years ago comparing Hitler & Mussolini’s speeches. In it was a fascinating set of pictures & short films about how Hitler constantly rehearsed his speeches, and gestures, to be sure he’d get them right. But he usually started very slow & halting, unsure of what reception he would get, although even some of that was part of the “act”.
Usually, when we see snippets of his speeches these days, we only see the end, with him ranting to raving crowds, but if you watch the entire speech, you can see where Chaplin got the style from.
